Are you looking for a unique program on the shortest night of the year? If you visit Hungary, you can spend this special night in museums, and we are sure that you won’t regret it.

Have you seen the film Night at the Museum? If yes, you may remember the adventures of a newly recruited night security guard, played by Ben Stiller, who discovers that the animals and exhibits on display come to live after dark and want vengeance, because of an ancient curse.

We can’t guarantee the adventures seen in the movie for you, but we are sure that you will enjoy your stay at the museum(s) on the 21st of June, the Night of the Museums in Hungary. On the shortest night of the year, you can enter several museums, galleries, libraries, baths, cultural centers. In Budapest, it will be the eleventh Night of the Museums, and in the countryside, it will be the ninth occasion for that.

There will be hundreds of places participating in this unique cultural program. For example, you can see “night of colours” in Budapest History Museum, music and dance in the National Gallery or retro buses and special programs at two famous hotels in Budapest, Hotel Gellért and Hotel Astoria. You can find several interesting programs in the countryside, too, for example in Móra Ferenc Museum in Szeged, or in the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pécs.

The Night of the Museums is a really popular program because it takes place on a special night and gives mental and physical refreshment to all the visitors. On this night, you can see arts and history like you’ve never seen before, and you can try programs you’ve probably wanted earlier.

Creative Arts Fair in the Museum of Applied Arts

For example, you can participate on a Creative Arts Fair organized in the Museum of Applied Arts (Iparművészeti Múzeum). This is a design fair, where you can find more than 50 artists, goldsmiths, fashion designers, ceramists and graphic artists who present their works in the museum.

The design fair will take place on the 21st of June, from 2pm till 2 am on the 22nd of June. You can find the designer products in the Glass Hall, in the ground floor of the museum. You can enter by shoving your armband for the Night of the Museums.

The armbands cost 1500 HUF for adults and 600 HUF for children over 6 years. Under 6 years of age, children can enter the programs for free. With your armband, you can enter all the programs in Budapest, and you can use the Museum Buses and all public transport vehicles from 6pm till 2.30 am. You can buy armbands in every museum which participates in the Night of the Museums, and in the BKK ticket offices, as well. If you visit a museum in the countryside, you can buy your ticket there, on the spot.
