Ildikó Enyedi and Márta Mészáros is on the BBC's top 100 list.
BBC publishes top lists about films every year in different topic: they had Culture poll to find the 100 greatest foreign-language films of all time, 100 greatest comedies, 100 greatest films of the 21st Century and the 100 greatest American films, however, criticism has been expressed that too few female directors appear on these lists. That's why they decided to make their first ever list that collects the films made by women.
It wasn't easy to get on 'The 100 greatest films directed by women' list at all: 761 different films were voted for by 368 film experts – critics, journalists, festival programmers and academics – who came from 84 countries. That's why it's such a big thing that two Hungarians have been included in this list: Márta Mészáros's 1975 Golden Bear Award-winning film, Adoption got the 97th place, while On Body and Soul, Ildikó Enyedi's film from 2017 became 73rd.
The top list is interesting beyond the Hungarian award winners too (the oldest movie on the list is a silent movie from 1916, for example), so it's worth taking a proper look on it, that you can do here.
