HERITAGE TRANSPORT SERVICES IN BUDAPEST
Posted by Eszter Hermann · Aug 11, 2014

On the last weekends of August, the transportation of the past comes to life in the capital city again. Unique heritage transport services will be offered to those who want a special experience.

Visitors will be able to travel by heritage tramlines in Budapest but can also try suburban railway lines to Gödöllő and a tram night-time photo tour.

Hundred year-old tramcars, the most beautiful sights of Budapest and an amazing experience – the reasons why Sunday heritage tram service along the Danube river embankment is a must-try. It offers a glimpse into the original atmosphere of the late 19th-century Budapest and an outstanding view all along the route, including Buda Castle, the Fisherman’s Bastion and Gellért Hill. The special tramcars marked with a “J” are in service on 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 August on tram line 2 which is among National Geographic magazine’s Top 10 tram rides.

On 16 August the legendary Ganz UV tramline operates again as well. The heritage tram night-time photo tour takes visitors along the most beautiful sights of the Hungarian capital, too, and to the routes of the narrow street tramlines, outskirts of Budapest; it’ll stop at special photo spots of the city. Registration and boarding are from 10:45 pm at Hungária kocsiszín (Hungária trainer) only and visitors have to look for the tram marked „F”.

Finally, „G” marks a 62-year-old MVIII-type electric motor-train that will be in service on 20 August. This unique heritage suburban railway departs from Örs vezér Square and offers transport to Gödöllő, a precious little town East of Budapest and a visit to Sissi’s castle.
