In a previous article (Outside the Center), we introduced 3 exquisite sights that can be found in the outer districts. Let’s continue this trip, we’ve collected another 3 places worth including in the itinerary.

Museum of Textile and Clothing Industry

Located in District III, Óbuda, an area that played significant role in the development of domestic textile industry, this museum collects the artefacts, documentary values of textile production and clothing manufacturing of Hungary. It is hosted in the former residence of the Goldberger family, one of the most successful textile merchants during the 18th, 19th and 20th century. Textile Museum (Textilmúzeum) guides us back to the 17th century, there are relics like paintings, sample books, corporate documents, but Jacquard weaving machines and the famous spinning jenny, a multi-sprindle frame from the beginning of the 20th century are exhibited, too. In spite of the fact that it opened its gates no sooner than 1999, Museum of Textile and Clothing Industry has already been awarded for its values on the cultural scene of the capital city.

Lake Naplás

Officially called Szilas Creek (Szilas-pataki) flood control reservoir, Lake Naplás (Naplás-tó) is an artificial lake in District XVI, Cinkota, also the largest area of standing water in Budapest. In the spring and summer it is a popular leisure and fishing destination. Together with the approximately 150 hectares of territory, a piece of undisturbed nature around, the lake has been a protected area since 1997. From an ecological point of view, Naplás is the most valuable territory of the capital city: it is the natural environment of numerous species of plants and animals.

Aquincum Museum

The museum collects the archeological findings, relics of remains of the settlement from the era of the Roman Empire. It is located in District III, on the former site of the ancient town, the territory of the excavations. Having an indoor and outdoor part, it offers a perfect program for either families, friends or colleagues, those interested in one of the most gripping chapters of history. The park of the ruins is the largest area of Roman archeology in Budapest, displays one-fourth of the territory of Aquincum, a civil town in the 2nd and 3rd century A.D., including the most important public buildings and a number of private houses. The museum holds hundreds of thousands of relics and artefacts, the Vision Storage, a permanent exhibition in the museum, follows the history of Budapest and Aquincum, juxtaposing the archeological finds from prehistory to the Migration Period.
