Usually, it is men, who get excited about cars, but in the summer a wide variety of events are held – some of which offer fun for the whole family.

The Open Track Day at Hungaroring, organized by TotalCar is one of those events. The location inherently attracts a lot of people, fans of Formula 1 sure would like to get a taste of what it feels like driving on the track Michael Schumacher and the moving circus of Forma1 had been using so many times. 7th of June is a day to fulfill such dreams, but the open track day offers a lot more than that.

Anyone can register to drive a few rounds, no matter what kind of car they have. Of course oldtimers and car rarities are welcome to the competition, as well as special race cars, but that’s not the point. The whole program is organized to grant a perfect opportunity to drivers to test their own car and get to know its limits – as well as one’s driving skills – in a safe environment. Registration for this part is closed, but the event is free of charge for the audience, and there is a lot more to do than just watching.

In addition to test driving, you can register to technical trainings, test your driving skills offroad, learn how to change wheels, a bicycle skill park will await those who prefer two tires, there will be various programs for children, and the National Directorate General for Disaster Management will use a huge area to present its fire engines and technology. There will be presentations of how they use their equipment, wreck cutting, and of course oldtimer fire engines will be available too, to try out and have fun with.

The event is organized for the 5th time, and the succes of the past four times proves that everyone enjoys the mix of car-focused programs TotalCar offers.

If you’d prefer a lazier program, visit Balatonalmádi between 13-15 June. Hungarian Beetle lovers will gather at the Yacht Camping, with all their charming little cars. It will be their 20th Summer Swarming, so great mood is guaranteed. Beetle enthusiasts are usually not the serious types, anyway.

If you wish for something traditional and elegant in the capital, your car event of the summer is the Budapest Classic Grand Prix. You don’t have to wait for long, on the 21st of June, oldtimer and youngtimer cars will take over the city. Organized by Mercedes Benz Classic Hungary, the day-long race visits Budapest’s most remarkable sights.

If you want to participate, you have to register before 15th June. The final entry list will then be available, but there are already some unique cars on the record – for example a 1938 Mercedes Benz 170V, a Willys MB from 1942, a 1951 MG TD, and a 1966 AlfaRomeo Giulia will be there for granted.

The competition is not about speed, but punctuality. There will be at least ten measured 1/100 specials, and some stamping points.The exact route will be known only to the participants based on the itinerary. They will not only visit important monuments, but also the Mercedes showrooms.

With all these events, I believe we can say: June is the month of car enthusiasts. Of course there will be more similar programs in the summer (such as the Velodrom Millenáris 2014 on 19 July, where cars under 1000 kg can race on the bike track of Millenáris), but this month is a good start to experience how beautyful cars can get people together.
