If you’re not an avid follower of dance music but are tuned into popular culture, you’ve likely experienced music touched by the hands of John Digweed. And on 7 November at Club Play, you have the opportunity to hear his music live.
John Digweed is a DJ, record producer and actor. Originally hailing from England but having clearly arrived on the global scene nearly a decade ago, John has long since cemented his name in the pages of dance music history. He began DJing at the age of 15 and first became well-known in his hometown, Hastings, where he put on successful club nights, the most famous of which were successful raves on Hastings Pier (a pleasure pier and popular music venue) where the likes of Carl Cox and The Prodigy performed.

His list of achievements since then is groundbreaking to say the least. Highlights would be the first proper dj mix compilation („Renaissance”), being the first British DJ to hold a residency at what was then the world’s most well known club in NYC, Twilo, as well as having remixed tracks by Danny Tenaglia, Underworld and New Order. His breakthrough was the first one; in 1993 he sent a mix tape to Geoff Oakes, the founder of Renaissance Club in Mansfield who played it to fellow DJ Alexander Coe (aka Sasha, Welsh DJ and record producer) heard his demo. The two DJs struck up a long-term friendship and working relationship.

In partnership with Sasha, Digweed is known for promoting progressive house and notable for producing the first commercial compilation for a nightclub. In his sets, he is noted for adopting tracks with new and different styles. He managed to create and maintain a level of integrity that is the benchmark for both DJ’s and producers globally and has reached the very top of his profession, being voted #1 in a voter's poll by DJ magazine in 2001. John Digweed has become the people’s choice while maintaining his longstanding presence in underground dance culture.
Luckily, he’s going to show his talent in Budapest, too; on 7 November at Club Play, one of the most popular dance clubs in the capital, he performs for Hungarian fans and dance music lovers.
