Robbie Williams – Swing Both Ways in Budapest
Posted by Mia Balogh · Mar 18, 2014

Robbie Williams opens his brand new tour called Swing Both Ways in Budapest on the 25th of April. Don’t miss it.

More than 57 million albums and 11 million singles sold, full-house concerts around the world and songs, which are favourites for millions from Europe to Australia, from Asia to America or Africa, for example Let Me Entertain You, Angels or the new hit song, Go Gentle. Robbie Williams can already be proud of all this success but he can’t sit at home satisfied – he already has new, big plans: a tour called Swing Both Ways.

The tour will be opened with a concert in Budapest, on the 25th of April, and the star promises that fans will hear new songs and the all-time favourites, as well. ‘My new album is just like Swing When You’re Winning from 2001 but completely different at the same time’ – Robbie summarized when he talked about Swing Both Ways in an interview.

‘First of all I wanted to do a swing album because I wanted to do a swing album. I always knew I'd do another and I think now is the perfect time to do it. I'm enjoying showbiz and I'm enjoying my life and my understanding of where I am now is that there needs to be an event every time I bring out a record. The album this time is a definite ode and a loving glance towards a period on the planet that I was never invited to 'coz I wasn't there… I wanted to be, which I feel still very strongly linked to’ – Robbie said about his new album which debuted atop the UK Albums Chart with first-week sales of 109,000 copies, becoming the UK's 1,000th number one album. It was also Williams' eleventh album to top the chart, putting him joint-second with Elvis Presley for the most UK number one albums.

He added that Swings Both Ways was originally going to be similar to his first swing album Swing When You're Winning. But he changed his mind later and added the original tracks. ‘Going in I planned it to be very similar to the last one, and then I realized that’s actually not what I wanted. It’s different. It’s not all covers, I had some songs that I wanted the world to hear and check out and maybe become part of the fabric of their lives, if I’m lucky enough, that I’ve had a hand in writing. So it’s very very similar to the last one, and very different – and hopefully I’m off to romance the world.’

This new album, released on the 15th of November, promises covers and original material, too, for example duets with Lily Allen, Kelly Clarkson, Olly Murs, Rufus Wainwright and Michael Bublé who also comes to Budapest in November 2014.

Swings Both Ways' first single, Go Gentle is Williams' fatherly advice to his daughter about her future romances. ‘Don't try to make them love you, don't answer every call … if they try and hurt you just let your Daddy know ... when you go giving your heart make sure they deserve it, if they haven't earned it, keep searching it's worth it’ – the lyrics say. Robbie later promised that it won’t be his last song for his little baby.

‘It's going to get boring for people but every time I open the creative mind, I want to write a song about her. It's quite obvious that's going to happen. [Fatherhood] is the biggest thing that's ever happened to me. As long as I'm an attentive dad and I give her time and love she'll be fine’ – he said about his daughter.
