Buda Castle Easter Festival

Traditions, folk art, culture, music and gastronomy: if you visit Budapest this spring, don’t miss the Easter Festival in the sumptuous Buda Castle.

The festival season never stops in Hungary. There are several festivals you can enjoy in the countryside or in Budapest, in every season of the year. One of them is the Buda Castle Easter Festival, which is called Easter Merriment in Buda Castle, as well.

The festival will be organized for the third time this year, from the 19th to the 21st of April. During the three-day long celebration you can see, hear and feel old folk customs surrounding Easter in Hungary.

On the programs of these festive days in the Buda Castle, you can learn more about traditions, art and culture, but also about the world-famous Hungarian gastronomy. There will be a nice gastro fair there, were you can try Eastern dishes, Hungarian specialities, wines (on the wine terrace) and so much more.

There will also be a handcrafts fair, live folk music and dance performances. The list of the musical performers include Ghymes band – with their 30 years jubilee concert –,

György Ferenczi and the Rakajam, Ági Szalóki, Vilmos Gryllus, Kolompos band or Balkan Fanatik. This year’s program is offering classical music concerts, too. You can listen to the beautiful songs from Márta Sebestyén and Judit Andrejszki.

If you would like to visit the festival with children don’t worry because there will be plenty of programs for kids, too. For example, they can learn how to paint Easter eggs the traditional “Hungarian” way or they can participate in traditional games, interactive programs.

They can try the petting zoo with Easter animals, for example bunnies or lambs. The garden of tales or the creative arts and crafts house will be interesting for them, too, and during the day in the Buda Castle, they can meet the special Easter bunnies, as well, who wait for the kids with nest search games and other small things in their baskets.
