Friends getting together at a beautiful villa in the countryside, a weekend that promises to be pleasent but ends with an unexpected crime, envy and jealousy. No, this time it’s not an Agatha Christie novel. It’s one of the programs of Murder à la Carte, a three-course dinner with a crime to solve. The victim is the wealthy tycoon and – as neither Hercule Poirot nor Sherlock Holmes participates in the investigation – the role of the detective is yours.
Killer hunt at the dinner table – the programs of Murder à la Carte are basically interactive theater performances combined with delicious dinners. Guests are seated at different tables where they form a separate investigative team, and the competition with time and each-other begins. Each group of detectives has to find the criminal, the motive and the weapon. How? Investigation and interrogation take place in between the courses served – with the help of the actors, by finding vital evidence and analyzing the hints you will certainly get to the solution. All you need is cooperation and a dash of ingenuity.
The idea of these interactive crime dinners originates from the 19th-century Great Britain where it was quite popular to organize „murder mystery parties”. The company of Murder à la Carte has been entertaining the visitors for nearly 4 years now. Their performances – having no competition – are still unique in Hungary.
These unusual dinners are organized on a weekly basis, at different spots. The next performance in Budapest will be held March 28 at Garibaldi Cafeteria and Restaurant, but if you miss it, the same story will be repeated April 3 at BorNeo Jazz and Wine Restaurant. In these interactive plays, mysteriously named „The Veils of Doubt”, the voluntary detectives have to solve a crime as detective apprentices with the help of their master, inspector Leonardo DeAngelis, played by one of the actors. The victim is the well-to-do businessman (of course), there are several possible suspects (of course). So will it be the envious business partner? The humiliated janitor? Or the unlucky wife? You are the one to find the answers.
Of course, it’s hardly ever an easy job to deal with a crime. The murder might leave a bad taste in your mouth but the three-course dinner will definitely not. After the welcome drink, in Garibaldi Cafe tomato soup with Welsh rarebit, chicken breast medallions with spinach will be served and finally Milka mousse will sweeten the evening.
