Makeup trends for Spring '14
Posted by Mia Balogh · Apr 10, 2014

Colours, contrasts, explicit lines and magical glow – this is fashion in makeup this spring. Don’t be shy to try.

Spring is the ideal season for changes and for trying something new, maybe some things you have never thought you will ever try. So let’s see the makeup trends for this spring – which one of these is your favourite?

1. Berry cheeks, berry lips

Berry-coloured blush imparts a deeper flush than delicate pink, which gives the face freshness – this is also known and said by several makeup artists. You can use a cream or a powder, the key is to do it on just the center of the cheeks, blending out to make the apples glow. As for the berry lips, you can perk up minimal make up by using a berry lip gloss.

Our tips: try Clinique Cheek Pop in Berry pop for the cheeks or Michael Kors Lip Lacquer in Dame.

2. Bright orange lipstick

Orange lipstick has been on the makeup scene for a while, but now it's brighter and sexier. It is extremely beautiful and elegant with muted white, cream and pastel clothes, remains decent with black and shines in a party with a sequined mini dress, as well. Ask a makeup artist to find the right tone for yourself.

Our tip: try MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Gotta Dash.

3. Gold shadow and highlighter

This year’s makeup trends favour the brave, and those who like experimenting with colours and metallic details. Gold is the ultimate metallic: it brightens the eyes and gives any skin tone – from ultrapale to superdark – a sunny glow.

Our tips: try Dolce & Gabbana The Eyeshadow Smooth Eye Colour Duo in Gold or a shimmery highlighter like CoverGirl Tru Magic The Luminizer Skin Perfector to draw light to the inner corners of the eyes and to the cheekbones.

4. Chocolate brown nail polish

If you think that chocolate brown is a typical winter colour, we can assure you that you are wrong. At least, if you look at this year’s nail polish trend: there are several big companies who say yes to dark, delicious nails in this spring, too. It’s appetizing, isn’t it?

Our tip: try Essie Little Brown Dress, an exact match for dark-roast coffee.

5. Wear white

Although white might not be the first choice over favourite eye shadow or eyeliner shades, the results are amazing. It gives the cheeks an immediate contour without using other colours or too much make up. It can be truly elegant but if you combine it with just a lip gloss and sporty clothes, you can look sporty and in the meantime, effortlessly sexy, too.

Our tips: For inspiration, look to Kenzo's zinc white liner, which references the crest of a wave, or the brilliant pure white eye contrasted with a matte red lip at Altuzarra.
