13 of the unnamed public areas in Budapest will get new names soon – one of them can be named after Nelson Mandela, Index.hu writes.
Believe it or not, there are still quite a lot of streets and parks in Budapest without any names. Of course, locals and also the city council try to find a solution to identify these public areas – so from time to time, people of the city council decide about the new names of a few streets and parks.
Recently, they have decided about the name of a park in the 11th district: it will be named after Nelson Mandela. However, this decision requires approval by the district council, too.
Nobel Peace Prize winner Mandela (1918-2013) was the Republic of South-Africa’s first black president serving between 1994 and 1999.
Meanwhile in the 3rd district, they continue to name streets after spices (for ex. Watermint Street) and a park will be named after Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, Archbishop of Warsaw, who was well known for his principled stand against Nazism and Communism.
