Three new stops will be established at important junctions.

Although now it’s all about the coronavirus situation, life doesn’t stop. Budapest Development Center announced their first big project: the new Southern railway of Budapest. This will connect Kelenföld with Ferencváros and not only track expansion is expected during the investment, but also three new stops will be opened, and the railway environment will be rehabilitated and noise pollution will be reduced.

The concept originally presented in February this year is to implement a railway development that will make transport easier for the suburbs - by allowing suburban trains to enter Budapest from the agglomeration - but also for the benefit of Budapest residents.

The head of Budapest Development Center said: “such a railway development has not taken place in the inter section of Budapest for more than 100 years and is the first railway investment in decades to benefit commuters and brings new trains in Budapest.

Three new stops ofthe renovated line will be ’Nádorkert’ in the XI. district, that connects the tram network of Buda and the Inforpark, ’Danubius’ creates the possibility of transfer and connect to the HÉV (suburban railway) and the Danube-side areas in addition to Soroksári út, ’Népliget’ creates the connection to M3 metro and the surroundings of Üllői út.

The frequency will be 10-15 minutes instead of the current half an hour, and with the new trains, the Buda agglomeration, the area of the Southern City Gate and Kőbánya-Kispest, as well as the Pest agglomeration and the airport will be connected.

In addition to modernizing and speeding up transport, the development aims to reduce car traffic and improve air quality, as well as regulate the immediate surroundings of the stations and solve the sound insulation of stops, which is an important element of the project.
