This year Budapest Airport awaits with new destinations and more frequent flights.
Last year was a very successful year in the life of Budapest Airport with 9.15 million registered passenger movements. This was a new record, but this year they would like to host another 400,000 passengers. To achieve this goal Budapest Airport offers not less than nine new destinations and three new airlines in the summer season starting in late March. Moreover, the already operating airlines also greatly increase their capacity by increasing the number of flights or put larger aircrafts into operation.
New airlines and new cities from Budapest:
The Hungarian-owned Wizz Air is scheduled to put in service the latest, ninth Airbus A320 on May 15 in Budapest, increasing their capacity with 15% on the Hungarian market. This summer the Spanish national airline, Iberia and its discount subsidiary, Iberia Express will return to Budapest that shows the possibilities inherent in the Spanish market.
Another big old returning on the Hungarian market is the Scandinavian airline, SAS, which launches four flights a week to Stockholm Arlanda Airport from late March. Ryanair starts the new Athens flight at the beginning of the year, four times a week also. Wizz Air also adds four new destinations to the offer this spring and announced increase on 17 existing flight just in Budapest.
Yet the biggest news is that from this year Hungary and North America have direct air connection, thanks to the Canadian Air Transat’s Airbus A330, which will arrive in Budapest once a week touching Toronto and Montreal. The new service will start in the summer season, more precisely on June 18 and from then on we can travel from Canada to Hungary without transfer again.
Flights with increased frequency:
Many airlines who are already present on the Hungarian market decided to increase the number of their flights or seats due to the demands of the market, which shows a growing interest towards Budapest and Hungary. Due to this in the summer season of 2015 the available seating capacity increases no less than 7100 seats from or towards Budapest.
