Budapest is incredibly popular among photographers. It’s the 10th most frequently photographed city in the world.

The Washington Post published the world’s photo heat map that shows us how many photos were taken at each place. The Sightsmap is based on the datas of Panoramio, the top list of the most popular cities was drawn up based on the photos uploaded here. Panoramio locates the pictures based on geolocational datas, so such a comparison gave itself naturally. At www.sightsmap.com more yellow a place is, more people have taken photos of it.

The full view of the map clearly shows that Europe is the most attractive venue for photographers. At least for those who gave the image data on Panoramio with place location or let the program share this information. However, most of the photos are made in New York, the second favorite city is Rome and the third one is Barcelona. Budapest is now the tenth most photographed city worldwide, especially the St. Stephen's Basilica, the Matthias Church and the Parliament. Hungary’s second most popular city according to the photos on Panoramio is Esztergom, which has come up to the 112th place of the ranking.

The top 10 most photographed city:

  1. New York City
  2. Rome
  3. Barcelona
  4. Paris
  5. Istanbul
  6. Venice
  7. Monte Carlo
  8. Florence
