Top 5 outdoor programs for August
Posted by Mia Balogh · Aug 13, 2016

The last month of summer has some super outdoor programs to offer – enjoy yourself with friends or family for example by participating in the following ones

Festival of Folk Arts

In 2016, the main focus of the 30th Festival of Folk Arts is on playing, in its broadest and most complex sense possible. Folk toys, traditional games and artistic performances will be present here, as well as some other interesting things to enjoy – for example from the taste of some hand-made goods to the folk music and –dance.

Concerts in City Park

If you have ever walked in the City Park (Városliget) on a nice summer evening, you must have heard some music coming from the big tent, called Beer Tent located in the park. Well, this well-known concert venue will be demolished soon because of the future constructions planned in the City Park. But until then, we suggest you to visit the Beer Tent and enjoy some really good concerts – and a few pints of beer – there. For example, on 24 August, Station – U2 tribute band brings you the atmosphere of a U2 concert, and on 26 August, Room Service band will make you wonder if it is a Hungarian tribute band performing or is it the real Bryan Adams on stage.

Rooftop cinema

Do you like movies and special cinemas? Then one of your greatest experiences in this summer might be visiting a rooftop cinema. My plan is to go to Budapest Rooftop Cinema, where I have already seen the titles of the biggest favourites of mine on the repertoire – for example Interstellar and Amelie, and I also heard that the free popcorn provided to the guests there is really good.

Nights of shooting stars

Have you ever spent summer nights outside, watching the sky for catching sight of some shooting stars? If not, or you just haven’t had the luck to see one, you still can do it – in Hungary, they say that August is the month of the shooting stars, the season when it is the most possible to see a couple of them, if you stay outside a little longer. I visited recently Normafa with my boyfriend, and I can really recommend this spot because there is just a little light coming from the public lighting so you can see the sky and the stars quite well. And if you don’t see shooting stars don’t worry: you still can see Budapest from above, and this experience is marvellous, as well.

Firework on 20 August

20 August is one of the national holidays we have in Hungary, and it is the time of the country’s annual big fireworks. If you would like to see it in the city of Budapest, then go out to assure the perfect place because there is always such a crowd there! And more useful information: there are some traffic changes, road closures and diversions every year so stay informed if you are planning to drive in the city on 20 August.
