You can count on these 10 programs every year.

Food-themed festivals: there are a tons of them (yes, Hungarian people love to eat), for example mangalitza festival this weekend and the night of street food (in early December). Mangalitza is a Hungarian breed of domestic pig that was developed in the mid-19th century by crossbreeding Hungarian breeds, and the festival is built around this species and the slaughtering. The latter, of course, is the day of street food vendors that has gained immense popularity in recent years.

Budapest Spring Festival is a huge cultural festival with exhibitions, dance performances, concerts and a fashion competition. One of the themes of 2017 Budapest Spring Festival is the Austro–Hungarian Compromise, which was made 150 years ago, as well as the period that followed, the dual monarchy. This year it’s held between March 31- April 23.

Belfeszt is a „mini” Sziget-festival. In Budapest almost every district has its own day, where concerts and craft stalls entertain the crowd. The largest of these is the festival of downtown. It’s held on the first weekend of June and all the coolest bands of Hungary are doing fantastic concerts during these three days.

Budapest summer festival is the longest cultural festival in the city. Starts in early June and lasts until the end of August. During this period, the audience can watch theater performances, musicals, ballet and opera shows. This year Béjart Ballet Lausanne will certainly perform and we can also watch Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess and Evita.

Night of Museums: During this night (in 2017 it’s 24 June) almost all museums of the country are open until dawn, and guests can visit all of them with a single armband. There are special interactive programs and guided tours that worth staying awake. This year’s theme will be the value preservation.

On Beaches’ night the beaches of the capital and the country are not closed at the usual time, but they are open until dawn, waiting the visitors with special programs. Beaches’ night is usually in the end of July when the summer is the hottest, and it’s more like a huge party than a simple spa event.

Sziget festival: When it comes to programs in Budapest, I am sure that the very first that comes to everybody’s mind is Sziget festival. This year’s event is going to be held between August 9 and 16 and the headliners are The Kills, The Pretty Reckless, Clean Bandit, Major Lazer, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, Two Door Cinema Club, Tom Odell, Bad Religion, DJ Shadow, Mac DeMarco, Vince Staples, W&W, Oliver Heldens, WE ARE GTA, Kensington, Oh Wonder and GusGus.

20 August celebrations: 20 August is the birthday of our country, the biggest non-religious feast. This day is bank holiday, there are many craft fairs in the city, it’s the day of “New Bread”, and in the evening you can admire the most beautiful fireworks of the year.

Christmas fair at Vörösmarty Square is the Hungarian version of the classic Christmas fairs. Festive atmosphere, huge Christmas tree, souvenir booths…If you have ever seen such a thing, you can imagine.

Circus festival: The International Circus Festival is the parade of the world's most successful productions. The best acrobats, circus directors, artistic directors come to Budapest in January every even year (next time 2018 January) to introduce themselves to the professionals. It’s one of the most prestigious circus art festivals, so it’s absolutely worth visiting!
