Millenáris Széllkapu debuts: this is how the city's newest public park will look like
Posted by Budnews · Nov 22, 2017

Here comes the latest visual design of the transformation.

If you spent more than a few days in Budapest, Millenáris Park and Széll Kálmán tér must sound familiar. Millenáris Széllkapu is (will be) a new park between these two: the new park will be built near Széll Kálmán Square, on a former industrial and rust area, and is expected to be ready by the end of 2018.

The 2.5 acre green area will significantly improve the quality of air in the area with its green plant wall and with the unique, but native and stress-tolerant vegetation and also with its large water surface. The landscape architect team integrates an underground garage and plan to cover some parts of the Fény Street with the integrated green areas. This way the surface traffic of the area could also be moderated.

It was an important aspect of design that the new park would form an integral unit with the old Millenáris Park and improve the accessibility of the event center from several directions. One of the main inspirations of the designers was the lush landscapes of the Balaton Uplands. According to the latest plans, the park's vegetation will be like shrubby mountain pastures, and the park will have two real specialties. One will be spectacular at spring: the cherry blossom trees will bring a bit slice of Japan, while the other, the green hanging garden is unique in its kind.

The business and service buildings will be located at the edge of the park, at Margit Körút and Kis Rókus utca, and at the Kitaibel Pál passage to "protect" the park from the outside world. As the client demanded a commitment to renewable energy, the new park will have several solar energy solutions. During the landscaping, 328 trees will be planted in the garden, and more than 10 thousand square meters of shrubs and perennial plants, the selection of which have already begun. Can’t wait to see the result!
