The whole Budapest will be one big sport ground on 31 August.
There is a cool, bottom-up initiative in Budapest that aims to bring sports closer to life by sport and urban organizations and professionals: the Budapest Urban Games. The aim of BUG is to promote sporty lifestyle using the city, with the involvement, support and active cooperation of urban sports communities. During this „citylympia”, the streets will hopefully be filled with people to prove that Budapest is the biggest sports ground, and every corner of it should be used.
Budapest Urban Games will let you participate 3 sports in 3 locations in one day. There will be street soccer and streetball, which offers action-packed games for small teams and friends on Klauzál Square. Running takes place on Citadella this year, and applicants can choose between 5.5 / 11/ 21 kilometer distances. Swimming across the Danube is one of the most spectacular elements of the event every year; for this period, even the ship traffic will be stopped at the affected section.
The event is free for everyone, but participation is subject to registration. Thousands of amateurs, semi-professionals and professionals will hopefully share the joy of community sports, and according to the organizers, the event “brings people together, creates a chance to strengthen the relationship between existing sport communities and create new friendships.”
