Budapest's most famous railway station will be renewed in the next 2 years.
Taking advantage of the lower traffic, major renovation work begins in the Nyugati Railway Station building. Reconstruction of the roof structure will begin this week, just as renovation of the overhead line network of the track hall and the passenger information system.
“As part of the development, the roof structure of the railway station will be reconstructed on more than 8,200 square meters, the overhead contact line network in the track hall will be renewed and the passenger information system will also be modernized. During the works, the passenger hall of the railway station will be closed. " - said Róbert Homolya, President and CEO of MÁV Zrt. at a press conference.
According to the transport company, the investment is necessary because Nyugati Railway Station is the busiest railway station in Hungary with 18 million passengers a year and 480 passing trains a day - and it has not undergone extensive renovation work in the last 40 years. The total cost of the developments is nearly 9 billion Forints, the construction is expected to be completed in the spring of 2022, so if you see renovation works at the train station in the coming years, don't be surprised.
