Why is a giant fish in Budapest city centre?

The downtown is an interesting place, we all know that, but lately, it is made even more interesting by the Big Fish – let us tell you shortly about this installation.

Nowadays, if you take a walk in the city centre of Budapest, near Deák Square, you will see a giant fish installation there. What is it, and why is it out there?

Well, this is the so-called Big Fish, a see-through statue made of metal mesh, which is not only an art project and the giant bin for all our plastic waste, but also an awareness-raising project of the plastic pollution all around the planet.

They would like to raise awareness that our individual plastic rubbish should be minimised and kept to a minimum.

And it is not only a coincidence that it is placed to Deák Square now: for a couple of days, Plastic Free July is still on. But if you would like to begin a new life without single-use plastics, you can start anytime, no matter the month or the date.
