Budapest has green festive lighting this Christmas
Posted by Budnews · Nov 17, 2020

This year, the city’s Christmas decorations will also keep environmental considerations in mind.

Instead of the usual lighting garlands (which caused damage to the trees), 20 trees will be decorated with red hearts, golden bells and spheres in the Városháza Park, using a total of 440 ornaments. On the section of Andrássy út from Deák Square to Oktogon, there will be 182 ornaments stretched between 26 pairs of wood, containing about 60% completely organic materials. These ornaments are also recyclable or biodegradable, thus reducing the ecological footprint of the capital.

The transformed Vörösmarty Square will have colorful ribbon spheres imitating Christmas tree decorations, which will evoke a decorated Christmas tree. On the elliptical columns in the middle of the square and around the Lion well, a total of 16 ribbon ornaments can be seen, that are the smaller versions of the original ones previously found on the high columns of the square. The city administration thus preserves the atmosphere of the decoration of the square. We can't wait to see it live!
