21 February is the International Tourist Guide Day, with lots of programs in several countries and cities of the world, including Hungary and Budapest, as well.
International Tourist Guide Day is organized every year on 21 February since 1990. In the first year, 15 countries participated. Since then, tourist guides in growing number of countries have been giving help to their local communities, conducting tours for disabled persons, children, industry partners, officials and for everyone interested in their programs.
Tourist Guide Day in Budapest is already turned into a weekend full of programs, centred around tourism: from 19 to 21 February, the list of programs here include sightseeing tours by bus and by boats. You can learn more about the city from local tour guides.
For these sightseeing tours, every visitor has to sign up in Bálna Cultural Centre, where the sightseeing buses start their programs. In Bálna, you can find craft fair and other programs, for example you can taste Hungarian specialties, and participate at some other programs, too.
There will be thematic sightseeing walks, and you can enter museums and other institutes for free or for a very reasonable price. Most of the programs are for free or cost only a few hundreds of Forints.
